HP Mini 1033 Memory Upgrade
Monday, June 15, 2009, 08:02 AM - XP
I upgraded the memory in my Mini from 1gb to 2gb, and it nearly doubled my battery life! Before the upgrade I was running at just over 2 hours of battery time on a full charge, and my disk swap rates were through the roof. Now, after the upgrade, the hard drive is much more relaxed, and I get nearly 4 hours on a full charge.

Not too shabby for a $29 upgrade if you ask me!

FREE CD/DVD Burner
Tuesday, September 9, 2008, 09:21 AM - XP
I have used a number of tools in the past for CD/DVD creation, but this one has to be one of the EASIEST and most complete. CDBurnerXP is so easy to use, I installed it on my parents computer (and we all know that means I will have to support it) and haven't got a single call yet! I burns ISO's to CD/DVD, CD/DVD to ISO, audio disks, etc. Everything you would expect!

Difference between OEM and Retail XP CD's
Saturday, June 21, 2008, 05:41 AM - XP
While searching for the difference between OEM and Retail XP CD's I found http://www.msfn.org/board/lofiversion/index.php/t77950.html which lists these dll's as differing. If you replace these files on a retail CD with the ones on an OEM cd, you can use your OEM CD Key.

Virtual World
Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 02:34 PM - Technology, XP
I've been playing with some toys that I have found to make my world virtual. After continuous slowdowns on my development machine, etc I decided I would try a reformat, put office and IM on the main machine, and put everything else into a virtual. I'll let you know how that works out soon.

So far I have used vmware convert to convert my hard drive to a vmdk file, and am converting my .vmdk file to a .vhd file so I can use it with Virtual PC. I am also investigating using MakeVM (for $19 how can you go wrong) to go straight to a .vhd.

More on that later.

Virtual Drives on MyBook's
Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 02:31 PM - Technology, XP
I have been trying for a few days now to get a single, 55gb virtual hard drive (.vhd) to work on my new 1tb MyBook. Every tool I tried, it would get to about 4.1XXXK (just under 4gb) and then it would die, saying that the drive wasn't writable.

After about the 5th try (yeah, I'm that slow) I went to the WD site to see if this was a hard limit, and found my issue. The drive is formatted to fat32, which has a max file size of 4.1gb minus 1 byte. Coincidence? I think not. Now I am waiting the approximately 12 hours to format the 1tb as NTFS and then we'll see if I can't make the move!
